Access to the campus by car is generally possible. Further information on the different types of access permits, as well as a link to the parking management’s self-service portal, can be found here.

Persons holding a severely disabled ID card with the designation aG (exceptional walking disability) may apply for a permanent, free access permit. In this case, please send an email to verkehr@uni-mainz.de.

Persons with a JGU account can enter the respective license plate number in advance in the self-service portal.

Further information on low-cost parking options near the university, as well as great alternatives to traveling by car, can be found here.

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz strives to remove as many barriers as possible for students with disabilities. Some older buildings, however, cannot be made fully accessible due to historic preservation requirements.  You can find information on this either directly on the online platform JOGU-StINe (under Courses/Rooms) or in the JGU Room Information System.
Please check immediately after registering for a course whether the room in which it will take place is accessible for you. If this is not the case, please contact the relevant student advising office without delay.

The Office of Accessibility provides technical assistive devices for students with visual or hearing impairments, which can also be used flexibly in courses—for example, to enlarge what is written on the board. Information on the current inventory can be found on the Assistive Device Pool. Please feel free to contact us if you need an assistive device.

In special individual cases, students with disabilities or chronic illnesses may be eligible for adjustments to attendance requirements. The decision lies with the faculty, but we will be happy to advise you.

Informationen about borrowing materials from our libraries can be found here.

For any questions regarding accessible use of the libraries, the staff at the information and circulation desks will be happy to assist you. You can reach them by phone at +49 (0)6131 3922633 or by email at info@ub.uni-mainz.de.

Students with disabilities or chronic illnesses often face particular challenges, as study and examination regulations offer little flexibility for individual adjustments. These students are frequently unable to devote all their energy to their studies, as they need additional time and resources for organizing their daily lives, therapies, or rehabilitation measures. Physical, communication, or didactic barriers can also create disadvantages and prolong their studies.

For students with disabilities or chronic illnesses, it can be difficult to

  • adapt to the framework conditions of examinations,
  • individually structure the pace of their studies,
  • meet formal requirements such as attendance obligations, internships, laboratory work, or study abroad periods,
  • return to their studies after longer interruptions.

In such cases, individual disadvantage compensations may be necessary.
